On March 8th, Let's Talk About It
The Redwood invites you to celebrate, reflect, and take action with us this International Women's Day.
Please join us for a cocktail reception, a documentary film screening, followed by an engaging panel discussion.
We will be screening Let's Talk About It, a powerful documentary by Deepa Mehta. The film focuses on children, the innocent and often forgotten victims of domestic violence, and allows the audience to bear witness as they break the silence and secrecy of family abuse for the first time.
"Children are our greatest teachers and I hope this film helps to fuel meaningful action and commitment to stop the cycle of family abuse and give voice to every child and parent living in the unspoken despair of an abusive home."

The birthday boy or girl gets to choose any birthday gifts they want AND make a donation to The Redwood. Your child's next birthday is the perfect occasion to give to others while getting birthday gifts they will always remember. And the best part? ECHOage makes it so easy - and fun! - to give.
You can also ECHOage ANY event! Bridal shower, baby shower, retirement party, anniversary parties, you name it!

We are delighted to announce Abi Ajibolade as The Redwood's new Executive Director. As the shelter manager of The Redwood since 2007, Abi's breadth of experience, knowledge of violence against women, leadership in developing and implementing new programs, and dedication to
social justice ensures a perfect match for the work that lies ahead.
"I have been
working for change in women's lives for over 20 years - in partnership with
women, community workers, policy-makers and funders. It's an incredible honour
to have been selected as the new executive director. I am fortunate to have
such a solid foundation from which to continue the important services for women
and children fleeing abuse and the innovative programming The Redwood is known
for. As we enter our third decade of operation, I am looking forward to seeing
our vision and mission come alive within our communities as I work together
with each of you to continue to create opportunities to collaborate, enhance
learning and support dynamic change."
Abi's career has
spanned the non-profit and government sectors. Before joining The Redwood as a
Legal and Education Counsellor in 2004, she played a leading role in the
federal government of Nigeria's legal system and was an integral part of a
committee involved in a nation-wide human rights legislation review.
Abi has sat on the
Board of Directors for Ernestine's Women's Shelter and is a member of many
other organizations working for social justice, dedicating most of her
community work to empowering young people and women. She holds a Bachelor of
Laws degree (LL.B) HONS, a certificate as a Crisis Prevention Intervention
Instructor and is a current member of the Prevention of Sexual Violence and
Harassment Project Advisory Committee for the Ontario Coalition of Agencies
Serving Immigrants (OCASI).
Please join us in
welcoming Abi as The Redwood's new executive director.
