Volunteering at The Redwood

The Redwood has relied on the support of volunteers since its beginning, and it continues to welcome volunteers to share in our vision of supporting women and children to live free from abuse.

Thinking about volunteering with us?

We look for volunteers who:

  • At least 16 years old
  • Volunteers on iDetermine must be 18 years or older
  • Can provide a cleared vulnerable sector check
  • Can provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination status (for in-person volunteers only)
  • Can attend an interview
  • Can provide 2 personal references
  • Have a background in, or a willingness to learn, trauma-informed communication

What we offer to our volunteers:

  • Training needed to be a great volunteer
  • Reimbursement for your vulnerable sector check application
  • Reimbursement for TTC fare to and from the shelter
  • The opportunity to respond to our call-to-action:
Mobilize community to end gender-based violence!

“Volunteering at The Redwood helped me build a foundation of skills and a sense of a supportive community. It also helped me understand the social services sector in Canada.

This role helps me practice the skills I am learning in school and work.

Responding to chats on iDetermine also made me realize how important emotional support is. Receiving no judgment support, support to create safety plans to manage risks in one’s life, or just being there to listen.. these can be lifesaving."
